Question: Do our taste buds require smell?

Hypothesis:

It tasted like sweet sugar but then when i unblocked my nose it tasted like blueberry

Materials:

Jelly Beans
Your hands
Your nose
Your eyes

Procedure:
  1. Blindfold cover your eyes
  2. Block nose
  3. Put jelly bean in mouth and chew (don’t swallow)
  4. Record the flavor you taste
  5. Unblock your nose
  6. Taste again
  7. Then record

Observations:

When i blocked my nose all i could taste was sugar which was disgusting. After i unblocked my nose i could taste the actual flavor which was blueberry

Holiday explanation

Thursday 16 October 2014

Holidays are important because we need to relax and have time to ourselves. It is a time to spend some quality time with family.

How can we spend our holidays?
Spending time with our family, Do something fun , do some chores around the house.

When we’re on holiday we can have a lot of time to think about our new goals for the next term and also spend a lot of time with close friends and family

On a beautiful hot sunny day my family and I went to the Glendowie Park to let out some energy. We had to walk down this hill and it took us about 15 minutes to get there. Once we arrived at the park we decided to climb up this spider web and lay down in the baskets and play a little game of rugby. By the time we all finished playing rugby we all walked back home it was tiring.

The most thing I enjoyed about the holidays was spending a lot of time with my sister and little niece that lives up north. We enjoyed every moment and precious time we spent together.

Matariki Poem

Look to the heavens  during matariki

7 stars shining bright,

they are like 7 bright flames

decorating the dark winter night sky

they’re gathering people together

happiness, laughter and celebrating

impressed by the beauty

that lights up the cool crisp june night

Matariki is Here

Anzac Poem

People are trying
Sad and Crying
People dying
most are surviving
Now they are flying
We are so thankful
for what they've done
for saving our breath one by one :)

Loopy People

We learnt to
1. Measure body parts
2. Half the measurements
3. Apply the halved measurements to measure, cut and create our Loopy Person.

It was easy to cut out our parts and halved them.
It was hard preparing it together.

Our last basket ball session

Today our class had our last Basket Ball session it was amazing and wonderful. When we arrived at the court we had to line up on the white line near the seats. Our first activity was a running exercise, we had to run half way then back and then run all the way down to the end of the court just for a warm up. Then Steph put us in groups 1 and 2. We played a game and the instructions were to run through the cones and grab the basket ball and pass to each player in your group then shoot it in the hoops but steph had to call our numbers like 2, 3 ,4 ,5 and if she says 3 then 3 people run from each team. Our next game was basket ball 5 on each team, their had to be a person thats in the center of the court. When Steph throws the ball one of them had to try and get the ball and defend the other team. After we finished playing Steph said we were getting better and better, Jack thanked Steph and we had to line up into 2 lines and walk straight to class we all felt proud of ourselves.

Auckland Zoo

On Friday the 4th of April 2014 room 10, 7 and 9 went on a extravaganza trip to the Auckland Zoo to learn about native trees and animals. We travelled by two buses, once we entered the bus we greeted the bus driver. It took about 40 minutes or less to arrive at the Auckland Zoo.

Once we arrived there, we all had to thank the driver and hop off, we lined up into our groups and had to wait for the instructors to arrive to the entry of the zoo. Our group teacher and parent helper were Mrs Atuahiva and Eseki’s uncle Tevita. The instructors names were Laura, John and Richard. Laura talked to us before we entered the zoo about the rules and what we can and what we can’t do.

Our first destination was a little seating place where Laura was talking to us where to go first. Our second destination was the Lizard Place we saw lizards sitting still in the tank on the rock that was in it. The lizard was small and the colour was grayish and a bit of greenish on it. The lizard never moved when we were there, which was sad because I wanted to see them move. :(

Our next destination was called the rainforest we saw the Kauri tree and the Nikau tree and much more well we were walking in the rainforest.

The next destination was visiting the kea, it was massive and it had orange wings. It landed near our class room 10.

After seeing different types of native trees, plants and birds we had lunch in a seating area where the sun was shining beautiful on us, it was very hot. After lunch we had time to ourselves, to go look around the Zoo and see things we never got to see. We went to see the Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, and so much more. We had a lot of fun getting to see animals and learning about different types of animals.

When it came to the end of leaving the Auckland Zoo I felt sad because it was fun and I had a really good time.

Magda the Mammoth Hunter

I read a book called Magda the Mammoth Hunter. It was about a girl named Lucy who thought she has been to this place of art in Europe. She lives in Melbourne Australia and has traveled to Paris and London. Her father was a professor and he took Lucy to a special place he calls it a cave. Their were lights shining in the cave and it was cold  and whenever they walk their footsteps echoed.
